For the first time since I was about 7 years old, I can say, "It's snowing!!!" Okay, I've actually said that a few times while skiing out-of-state. And, it actually DID snow a little in Arizona a few times...albeit briefly. Nevertheless, I have a different outlook now that I'm living in it.
If you're confused, let me fill you in...
We recently moved from sunny Arizona to beautiful Park City, UT. With a stunning landscape and far less people and pollution than in the Arizona valley, we are absolutely LOVING it here!!! Yes, it's cold. But, it's not like I expected it to be. I simply dress warm every day and often have to shed layers at some point because I get too hot.
As much as we love it here, the move has not been without it's difficulties...most of them behind us now. We had no hot water for the first few days and had to shower at a friend's. We ended up purchasing "two" new hot water heaters. We had leaks that needed fixing, toilets that were left with water in them and were disgustingly dirty and lots of cleaning to do. We also had major problems staining our basement concrete and ended up hiring someone to complete the job. We barely got it done before the movers arrived on Dec. 31st. It took the movers two days to unpack us and many boxes were left for us to unpack. Note the photo of the stacks of boxes in my office. Luckily, many of them went to Tim's office and the kid's area. I couldn't imagine how all of that would fit into MY office!!! We're making progress; but I'll feel much better when my home is organized and doesn't look like a cyclone hit it. This clutter is starting to get to me.
Emily (8th grade) and Turner (5th grade) started school Monday. Having never moved before, this has been quite an adjustment for Turner. His first day was pretty awesome, though, and he's made several friends and loves his teacher. YEAH!!! Emily had a much easier transition. Although we moved when just was 2 1/2, she's pretty much lived in the same house all her life. She is really enjoying the change of scenery; but misses her friends. Her schedule is much different here than in AZ. She has "8" classes alternating over "2 days" (4 one day and 4 the next). So, she's getting used to that. But, she is enjoying her classes for the most part and has made several friends. Both children are enjoying the outdoor snow activities with their school. They've also made their own sledding runs in our back yard. We have a pretty decent hill in the back part of our yard and they made a few runs and named them all. One is called "No Name" (named after a ski run at Sunrise in Arizona).
Tim is on company shut down and I'm too busy to do anything with my Health Counseling business. We'll both be back in full swing January 8th, when Tim starts back at work. I'll be working at Yoga Center and then a new Wellness Center when it's finished being build. I have a great group of people here to work with and the market is better for me here than in Arizona. People here are really interested in being healthy and are more open to what I have to offer. The next few months will be tenuous as I re-start my business. I'm also working on promoting my new book "I'd Rather Scrub Toilets than Cook," which is a cooking guide with tips to getting in and out of the kitchen quickly. You can check it out at http://www.youniquenutrition.com/Cookbook.htm.
Well, it's been quite the journey from the desert to the mountain...one that I'll remember and cherish for the rest of my life. I miss my family and friends and look forward to their upcoming visits. Nevertheless, I am thrilled about the new opportunities ahead for me and my family.
If you would like to keep up with the goings on in our life, please check back for updates. I'll post regularly; but they likely won't be this long...thank goodness. ;-)
Looking forward to skiing in fresh powder tomorrow!!! :)
Much Love to all,
Gina
